The 2010 World Youth Championships

born in 1992 and 1993. Its location in France has not yet been
advised.
Selection Trials for the Australian Team to compete at the
2010 World Youth (Male) Championships will be held 26-28 February, 2010.
Member Associations will be able to enter one boxer in each weight

selected to represent Australia at the 2010 World
Youth Championships and each selected boxer will be required to make a
financial contribution to help meet the costs associated with his
competing at the World Youth Championships. The entry of each boxer
by a Member Association to the Selection Trials must be accompanied
by the photo identification page of each boxer’s Australian passport
current to mid-October, 2010 i.e. no Australian passport current to
mid-October, 2010, no entry to the Selection Trials. The foregoing
requirement is because of what will be the short period between the
Selection Trials and the closing date of entry of boxers to the World
Youth Championships and the need for the selected boxers to be able to
travel to the Championships. Please note that a boxer who finishes in
the first four boxers in his weight category at the 2010 World Youth
Championships may be selected by the Australian Olympic
Committee to represent Australia at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games to be
held 14-26 August in Singapore.
Selection Trials for the Australian (Elite Male)
Team to the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the Australian Team to
the 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships will be held 8-11 April,

BAI’s Team Nomination Criteria, when it is approved by the ACGA, will
be posted on BAI’s website.
The 2010 Women’s (Elite) World
Championships will be held 10-18 September in Barbados. A winner of a
weight category at the Australian Selection Trials will have the first
option of being selected to represent Australia for that weight
category at the Women’s World (Elite) Championships. Unless otherwise
advised all entrants for the Championships and the Team coaches should
anticipate each will have to meet the costs of their participation in
the 2010 Women’s (Elite) World Championships as none of BAI’s sponsors
permit their sponsorships to support women’s boxing.
2009 Australian Championships
Boxing ACT has advised that the
2009 Australian Championships (Men’s and Women’s Elite, Youth and
Junior categories) will be held 3-6 December, 2009. Please note that
the former Under 19 and Under 17 Years of Age categories are now
abolished. Boxers eligible in 2009 to compete: in the Elite

the Youth category those born in the years 1991-92
inclusive, and in the Junior category those born in the
years 1993-94 inclusive.
It is important to note the difference in
the years of birth requirements for the Elite and Youth categories
between the 2009 Australian Championships and the 2010 Selection

the change of year from 2009 to 2010.

conducted in accordance with BAI’s Competition Rules.

2009
Australian World Junior Championships Team
Boxers
(born in 1993 and 1994) and coaches intending to seek selection in
the Australian Team to the 2009 World Junior Boxing Championships are
advised that it is estimated the personal financial cost to them of
membership of the Team will be approximately $2,000. Unfortunately, the
cost of airfares to Yerevan, Armenia, is relatively high. Additionally,
members of the Team will be responsible for their travel to and from
their homes to connect with their international flights.
BAI expresses its great appreciation to the Australian Commonwealth
Games Association for its generous contribution to the cost of the Team
competing at the 2009 World Junior Championships. The ACGA will
contribute up to $24,500 towards the cost of up to 7 boxers competing
in the 2009 World Junior Championships.
BAI is aware that there has been some confusion regarding AIBA's new
under age groups and their titles.
From this year the World Junior Championships refers to what was
formerly called the World Cadet Championships and is this year for
Boxers born in 1993 and 1994.
