Commonwealth Games Australia has approved the Selection Criteria for the Australian Boxing Team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games to be held 28 July- 8 August in Birmingham, England.

Commonwealth Games Australia, because the international Commonwealth Games Federation has limits on the size of national teams at Commonwealth Games, pursuant to an allocation formula applied by it to Australian sports has determined that 10 Australian boxers can be in the Australian Team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Pursuant to the approved Selection Criteria the Board of Boxing Australia has established a working group to determine the 10 weight categories, from the 16 weight categories (10 men’s and 6 women’s) to be contested in Birmingham, in which Australian boxers are most likely to ‘medal’ at the Games. The working group are asked to determine the 10 weight categories by November, 2021. The members of the working group are Phil Goodes (Chairman), Shelley Watts, Geoff Peterson, Shara Romer, Jamie Pittman, Kevin Smith and Andrew Pratley.

These people are, also, the members of the National Selection Panel created pursuant to the Selection Criteria which will nominate to Commonwealth Games Australia the 10 boxers to be the members of the Australian Team.

Commonwealth Games Australia has not yet advised how many coaches can be selected to the Australian Boxing Team.

As required by the Selection Criteria Boxing Australia will conduct a Selection Tournament (in Adelaide in early April, 2022) consisting of the to be determined 10 weight categories in which boxers will represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
