Boxing Australia announces Santiago Nieva as National High Performance Technical Lead and Head Coach

Decorated mentor Santiago Nieva will continue to work with Australia’s premier boxers after being appointed as national Head Coach of Boxing Australia’s (BA) High Performance unit.
Nieva will also work as the national High Performance Technical Lead to ensure Australia’s elite boxing athletes can sharpen their skills to a world-class level as they strive for success on the international stage.
Nieva had been boxing’s Head Coach under the Combat Institute of Australia (CombatAUS) model and his appointment will create a seamless transition to BA, which will oversee its own High-Performance program from January 1.
BA Chief Executive Dinah Glykidis said Nieva had a strong record of success and a commitment to excellent that will drive boxing into a new era of growth and achievement.
“Santiago brings a wealth of experience to the position, having previously held Head Coach roles with India, Sweden and Argentina national team programs and recently with boxing under CombatAUS,” Glykidis said.
"We are delighted to welcome Santiago to Boxing Australia and keep that continuity for our athletes as we bring our High-Performance program under the one banner.”
Nieva said he was looking forward to working with the talented group of elite athletes and fostering the next generation of stars ready to make an impact on the road to LA in 2028.
"I am honoured to take on this role with Boxing Australia and continue to work with the talented group of athletes,” Nieva said.
“I look forward to building on the foundation of success that has already been laid. Together, we will work hard, compete and bring our fans something special."
The first High Performance camp will be held in late January to early February as the cream of the nation’s boxing talent comes together for the first time in 2025.
