National Futures Program Receives New Support from AIS

The new funding supports Boxing Australia’s Performance Pathway Strategy, developed in conjunction with the recently formed Combat Institute of Australia. An important aspect of the Strategy is the expansion of the National Futures Program to incorporate Emerging Elite athletes, ensuring the continued development of Australia’s best boxers after they turn Elite and begin to compete for selection in National Teams.

The substantial Grant funding received will allow for an increased amount of national and international activity, with the following dates already announced for national camps to be held at the AIS Combat Centre in Canberra with more to be confirmed:

• 21^st -30^th May
• 3^rd -7^th July
• 14^th -24^th August
• 18^th -22^nd September
• 25^th -29^th September

Josh O’Brien, Boxing Australia CEO said: ‘We are grateful for the generous support of the AIS to fund the National Futures Program over the next two years. The Program has built a solid foundation since it was introduced in 2019 and this new investment will help strengthen our Pathway further. I look forward to seeing our depth of talent continue to grow.’

Jamie Pittman, Boxing Australia National Performance Pathway Lead said ‘Thanks to the AIS, Australian Boxing now has a clearer High Performance Pathway from Juniors to the Elite National Team. In the past we’ve often experienced high athlete turnover, so developing the next generation of Australian representatives is important to ensure we are regularly competing for medals at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympics. I appreciate the support of Andrew Nolen and the Combat Institute of Australia team in developing our Pathways strategy and securing this funding.’
