Powerhouse investment in boxing to power athletes to new heights

Boxing Australia (BA) will come out swinging in the LA 2028 cycle after receiving a major funding boost from the Australian Government to ensure its athletes can continue to fire on the world stage after a memorable Games in Paris.
Australia enjoyed its most-successful Olympics since Rome as Caitlin Parker (Women’s 75kg) and Charlie Senior (Men’s 57kg) both walked away with bronze medals, a result that built on Harry Garside’s breakthrough bronze in Tokyo.
Now a Win Well investment for high performance sport from the Australian Government of $5.7 million, across the window from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, will enable BA to ensure its athletes have the backing in place to take their feats to the next level.
This comes on top of more than $300,000 Play Well grant for participation, taking the overall funding package from the Government beyond the $6m mark. This is an historic investment and more than double the funding boxing has previously been allocated.
“This is a major vote of confidence in Boxing Australia, and we thank the Australian Government, Sports Minister Anika Wells and the Australian Sports Commission for their trust in our vision and this generous investment,” BA Chief Executive Officer Dinah Glykidis said.
“The move to take ownership of our high-performance program from January 1 next year aligns perfectly with the funding commitment and we are highly motivated to provide the best possible environment for our athletes to thrive.
“Our ‘What It Takes to Win’ high performance strategy aims to have Australian boxers on podiums at benchmark events and surround them with unprecedented levels of holistic support that gives them every confidence to be at their best as an athlete and a person.”
The funding to Boxing Australia is part of a record $385m investment announced by the Australian Government across able-bodied and para high performance sport.
“This is an incredible time to be part of Australian sport as we see a home Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon for 2032,” Glykidis said.
“Boxing Australia is looking forward to playing our part, showcasing our incredible athletes and inspiring the next generation.”
